FloridaMakes along with the
Bay Area Manufacturers Association (BAMA)
and the
Manufacturers Association of Central Florida (MACF)
were happy to host Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott over the past two weeks, as part of “roundtable” discussions with Florida manufacturers.
“I think the roundtable visits went well,” said Donnie Casey, MACF Executive Director. “Most importantly, our local manufacturers in attendance had a chance to voice their concerns and discuss the issues most affecting their respective businesses.
“Senators Scott and Rubio were very receptive to the feedback.”
Among the issues discussed was recruiting more talent to manufacturing.
“We have to rethink the way we train people … and frankly a lot of it is just awareness too,” said Senator Rubio, during a roundtable discussion at
Bridg
, a high-tech manufacturing facility near Kissimmee. “A lot of people don’t know about the (manufacturing) jobs that exist.”
The roundtables were hosted in coordination with facility tours at
Southern Manufacturing Technologies
in Tampa and
SkyWater
in NeoCity (Kissimmee). The roundtable with Senator Scott was hosted at the FloridaMakes office in downtown Orlando. Southern Manufacturing Technologies manufactures precision machine components and assemblies. SkyWater manufactures semiconductors.
