FloridaMakes provides improvement solutions to manufacturers to increase growth and bottom-line savings, and develops initiatives designed to advance the State’s manufacturing sector through talent development, technology assistance and business growth.  We deliver innovative assessment, training and consulting services customized to meet the specific needs of our clients.  Clients include all manufacturers in the state of Florida, with a focus on small-to-mid-sized firms.  FloridaMakes is the NIST Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NIST MEP) affiliate in Florida and is a non-profit, industry-led partnership of federal, state, and private industry (www.floridamakes.com). FloridaMakes, headquartered in Orlando, FL is operated by regional manufacturers associations throughout the state, and in partnership with other related organizations to provide services to manufacturers throughout the entire State. 

General Description

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for providing support to the Vice President of External Affairs in developing, leading and implementing all aspects of marketing and communications for FloridaMakes.  The incumbent will develop materials and interact with internal and external stakeholders to deliver the organization’s messages to the public and the media; contribute to the development of publications and websites, facilitate marketing campaigns, schedule meetings, create timelines, and help plan / execute events.

The incumbent will be an exceptional story-teller who can help drive development of a world-class marketing and communications plan that elevates the organization’s success and values cohesively and comprehensively across a competitive market.  The Coordinator will perform a variety of specialized and administrative functions to increase the company's visibility through the development and distribution of information and materials. These include activities around the management of communication efforts that promote, advance, and protect the organization’s brand reputation. The incumbent works closely with the FloridaMakes’ team and partners throughout the state, and with the NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership National Network. 

A successful candidate will be a highly proactive, self-driven, positive team member who is skilled in prioritizing, has excellent communications and writing skills and experience, and is able to manage multiple projects and outside vendors simultaneously. It is expected that the incumbent supports the development and implementation of a marketing and communication plan which advances FloridaMakes’ strategic objectives.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Communicate FloridaMakes’ mission, work and impact to key audiences

Implement marketing and advertising campaigns by assembling and analyzing forecasts; assisting with the preparation of marketing and advertising strategies, plans, and objectives; planning and organizing promotional presentations; and updating calendars.

Execute ongoing communications and marketing initiatives through the appropriate distribution channels that communicate FloridaMakes’ mission, work and impact to key audiences, including Florida manufacturers, Regional Manufacturers Associations, the FloridaMakes Board, strategic partners, funding stakeholders, earned/traditional media, the general public among other key audiences. This includes developing content for and managing FloridaMakes’ various platforms, including the FloridaMakes’ website, social media, communications to funders, as well as FloridaMakes content provided through partner channels. Actively engage, cultivate, and manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding FloridaMakes’ programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects. Prepares marketing reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.

  • Corporate Communications

Support the FloridaMakes’ leadership team to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media and key influencers.  Prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting materials as needed.

  • Brand Support

Support the management of the FloridaMakes brand.

  • Marketing / Sales Support

Support stakeholders by collaborating with them to contextualize communications strategies based on local priorities as well as, by providing data, market trends, forecasts, account analyses, and information on new opportunities. Coordinate details for meetings, events and trade shows, including but not limited to registrations, registration packets, marketing communications, arranging meeting/event space, audio/visuals and catering, booth set up and breakdown, developing schedules and assignments, coordinating mailing lists, and taking photos. Design, purchase and maintain inventory of promotional items.

  • Contribute to FloridaMakes’ Key Initiatives

The incumbent should maintain up to date knowledge of marketing and communications products services tools and trends. Recommend implementation of best practices. Contribute to and expand the value of a variety of key cross-functional initiatives like the MakeMore Manufacturing Summit, the Florida Sterling Business Excellence Award, webinar series, and Manufacturing Month.  


The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and/or five or more years of experience in marketing/public relations/ communications or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position. 

Essential Skills/Attributes

  • Proven working experience in digital marketing. Highly-skilled in the in use of state-of-the-market digital tools, processes, and systems for marketing, communications, and office environments.
  • Demonstrable experience leading and managing SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media and/or display advertising campaigns.
  • Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform, and motivate.
  • Solid knowledge of website and marketing analytics tools.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript development and constraints.
  • Highly effective problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Business and journalistic/news writing skills, including AP style.
  • Possess strong client service orientation, excellent judgment and organizational skills and interest in being part of a mutually supportive, positive team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience communicating with both earned media as well as social media. 
  • Ability to take initiative, willingness to learn, be flexible, manage deadlines and effectively prioritize work flow.
  • Ability to successfully provide project management of internal team members and external vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management and across multiple departments.


It is preferred that this position be located at the FloridaMakes headquarters office in Orlando, Florida; however, candidates will  located elsewhere within the State of Florida will be equally considered, supplemented by regular face-to-face meetings in the Orlando office, and with attendance in Orlando for key meetings (such as strategic planning) when requested.  This position requires travel both within Florida and to periodic national meetings through NIST MEP. 

Work Environment

The employee uses computer and telephone equipment. The employee will be required to staff trade show booths, including transporting materials, set up and tear down. The employee may be required to work long hours at certain times. Occasional weekends or evenings may be required.

Organizational Reporting

The position reports to the Vice President of External Affairs. This position has no supervisory responsabilities. This position is not expected to have supervisory responsibility.


Compensation is based on experience.  FloridaMakes offers a very competitive benfits package, offers a 401K plan, and has a generous time-off policy.
