Tallahassee, FL- Representative Jason Fischer (R-Jacksonville) has filed HB 2737 calling for $3.5 million in state funding to strengthen and expand Florida’s manufacturing sector. The funding will further the work of FloridaMakes, an industry-led public-private partnership established in 2015 to improve the productivity and technological performance of Florida manufacturers and strengthen the state’s high-wage manufacturing economy.
“The manufacturing sector offers high wage career paths for Floridians. The sector provides real jobs for real people, and they need our support. This investment in FloridaMakes will continue our efforts to build a strong and diversified economy,” said Representative Fischer. Senator Keith Perry (R-Gainesville) is sponsoring the legislation in the Senate.
“Manufacturing is the key to attracting the best business, talent and economic development to the state of Florida,” Senator Perry said. “I could not be more supportive of this investment and the impact it will have on Florida's future.”
“We appreciate the leadership of Representative Fischer and Senator Perry and the support of the Florida Legislature. This level of funding will enable FloridaMakes to strengthen manufacturing statewide, particularly in less densely populated and rural areas, and also provide the necessary cost share to draw on the maximum funding available from the National Institute of Standards and Technology to support Florida’s manufacturers,” said Kevin Carr, FloridaMakes CEO.
