FloridaMakes, headquartered in Orlando, FL, is operated by regional manufacturers associations and in partnership with other related organizations to provide services to manufacturers throughout the entire State. 

General Description

The successful candidate will be a highly proactive team member who performs a variety of financial, accounting and grant support services in order to meet the needs of the organization.  This position is responsible for entering financial information, preparing financial statements, maintaining cash controls and providing financial reporting. Working closely with the Finance team, the Staff Accountant will focus primarily on accounting, budgeting, compliance, reporting and variance analysis functions.

FloridaMakes is a rapidly-growing organization; the employee will continually have new and varied responsibilities.   The candidate will be skilled in prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
  • Enter journal entries and maintain proper supporting documentation.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal management purposes.
  • Review general ledger accounts and prepare adjusting journal entries.
  • Work with the Finance Team and other executive team members in the development of forecasts, budgets and budget revisions.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Assist with the annual independent audit and tax returns.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles and federal cost principles.
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliations.
  • Maintain general ledger charts of accounts.


  • Plans, implements and coordinates special projects as needed.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance to regional manufacturers associations field office staff and program partners on compliance and best practices for financial management systems.
  • Other projects and duties may be assigned as needed.


This position is based at the FloridaMakes headquarters office in Orlando, Florida; however, FloridaMakes will equally consider candidates located elsewhere within the State of Florida, supplemented by regular face-to-face meetings in the Orlando office.  Some local travel and occasional overnight travel may be required.

Work Environment

The employee uses computer and telephone equipment. The employee may be required to work long hours at certain times. Occasional evenings may be required for special events.

The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.  This position is not expected to have supervisory responsibility.


  • BS Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • At least two years of relevant experience, preferably in the non-profit community, with experience in accounting and finance, including budgeting, forecasting, financial statement preparations, financial analysis, account analysis and reconciliation.

Essential Skills/Attributes

  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial managers.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and summarize financial records for accuracy and conformance to procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles including compliance with GAAP and company policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with MS Office package software applications with advanced skills using Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong working knowledge of Accounting Systems such as QuickBooks.
  • Good organizational, verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to multi-task, are essential.
