This award and process have been developed through the cooperative efforts of strategic partners, FloridaMakes and The Florida Sterling Council. The award examiners’ team is comprised of individuals from the manufacturing and Sterling communities who contribute time, expertise, and diverse perspectives in company evaluations.
The purposes of this award process are to:
Eligibility: All manufacturers with production facilities in Florida, not having won this award in 2019 or 2020, are eligible to participate. The nominee does not need to be a member of any association. A nomination may be made by any individual or organization including any industry group, supplier, customer, workforce or economic development organization, or government agency. Self-nominations are also acceptable.
Nomination: Complete the online nomination form below. No nomination write-ups are required.
DEADLINE EXTENDED: The final day for nominations is Friday, December 31, 2020.
Organizational Profile: The nominee will be notified and asked to complete and submit the Organizational Profile Questionnaire (about two hours). The writing style and the content of the profile are not evaluated. The profile provides context for evaluation, detailing information of the company, and describes internal and external pressures and influences.
The profile and overview should be submitted by Friday, January 8, 2021.
Company Interviews: The evaluation process begins with company interviews. An initial virtual meeting scheduled with the Nominee and a team of examiners for an overview (about two hours) of the nominated company business. Discussion will include a review of basic elements of high performance based on the evaluation criteria. Manufacturers that are favorably screened, advance to the semi-finalist stage. Then, the examiner team will conduct a more in-depth interview (about three hours) to discuss detailed aspects of each semi-finalist manufacturer to evaluate company systems and practices.
Selection of Finalists and Winners: Examiners confer to review the evaluations, select, and recommend finalists. A team of judges will review the recommended finalist evaluations and decide the winners.
Awards Ceremony: Awards will be made based on scoring against the 2021 evaluation criteria for high performance. Finalists and winners will be recognized in mid- to late 2021.
Feedback and Continuous Improvement: All finalists will be provided value-added evaluation feedback (about two hours) offering identified company strengths and opportunities for improvement. Finalists should also expect to be invited to participate in knowledge sharing and developmental activities in the manufacturing community.
